The Australian Migrant Resource Centre hosts a yearly Youth Poster Awards Exhibition as part of SA Refugee week. We were invited to participate in the competition and to submit two posters with the theme of multiculturalism, human rights, cultural diversity, anti-racism, and welcoming refugees into Australia.
My first poster titled “Welcome New Australians” was selected to be part of the exhibition. The concept of this poster was to illustrate the word “welcome” with some Australian flowers growing on top of a rusted wire fence which is a common sight for refugees in their camps. The growing flowers is a sign of hope and new life.
My second poster focuses on why refugees are here in Australia, simply because they want to have a fresh start, rebuild their lives, and a new home. With this concept, I chose to use building blocks or Lego since it is an object that symbolises “building” and specifically a window to symbolise “home”.
